About This Course

This course has been designed to provide healthcare professionals an overview of malnutrition in children with cerebral palsy (CP), and to impart practical, relevant insights into their nutritional management.

It should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

This course has a 2‑year expiry date of 18th June 2028If you complete it after this date, please verify all clinical and scientific claims against the most recent, peer‑reviewed literature, as recommendations on nutritional assessment and management in children with cerebral palsy may have evolved.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • recognize the risk of malnutrition in children with cerebral palsy and screen for it appropriately.

  • list the common causes and consequences of malnutrition in children with CP, including the wide variety of feeding and swallowing difficulties.

  • discuss how energy and nutrient requirements of children with CP may vary, and list macro- and micronutrient deficiencies that are common in this population.

  • describe when enteral feeding may be indicated in a child with CP, and the variety of feeds and regimens available.

  • explain how to nutritionally support children with CP as part of a multidisciplinary team, in partnership with the family/caregivers.
